Kopitiam Talk & Intellectual Discourse: How high is high for HIBISCUS Petroleum, in the medium term?

TTDI, Dec 22, 2012 -- Let's have a quick look at the charts for yesterday's closing ok? Since this is just a Kopitiam Talk, let me make it a quickie for your eyes to glance... at my charts, so here it goes guys & gals..... its BULLISH for both the mother stock, Hibiscs as well as its warrant -- with both finished within the top 20 active counters.

1. For HIBISCS => closed at 94 sen (+17.5 sen or 22.9%), next target pegged @ 99 sen to RM1.14!

Technical indicators point towards a BULLISHNESS tone over the the medium term for both mother stock and its warrant. 

These include such alerts from both Advanced GET and MetaStock charts....viz;

2. For HIBISCS-WA => closed at 52 sen (+6.5 sen), next target pegged @ 64 sen to 79 sen!

At the newswire...

24/10 - Suspension of trading pending an announcement.
27/10 - Lifting of suspension, re-trading of the stock saw active trading - with its warrant in Top 5 most active!

Yup, Hibiscus-WA is in the TOP 3 - its a cheaper trading strategy to leverage on the parent stock!

Lets take a quick look at the Technical Picture ~ so here it goes... with two of my charts for your comments, if you wish to....

Take note of the Fibonacci's timing lines and arcs....

(1) PTI at 32% - still has got some upside potential - before profit taking sets in. Stochastics still has momentum.... Wave 3 still in uncharted territory... a target pegged at 81 sen is possible in short/near term!

The bullish, green bar and the engulfing bull signals are very strong!

(2) Bill Williams Profitunity analysis: Bullish, green bar - indicates an increasing volume and increasing MFI - a bias in the direction.... so go with the trend! Except that the close is above the Alligator... and is changing gray, so be cautious a  bit! 

(3) Japanese candlesticks triggered an engulfing bull on the day prior to the suspension request... definitely some news might have leaked (see my earlier blog posting)!
 

On that note I rest my case... and with my kopitiam (and pills) for breakfast! Have a nice and profitable day at Bursa Malaysia! Wassalaaam... oops its Friday today, don't forget the Jumaat solat!

The announcement is still pending (at the time I pen this down...here!) yet StarBiz has ran a story purportedly regarding it??? Why is the announcement still unavailable for the investing public to chew upon???? Read my postings on Oct 21 and earlier on... I have likened this small outfit as an interesting O&G play like the ones I saw during my ANU days - i.e. Offshore Oil NLC...??? Just a hunch when not a proxy to the 'still silent' news!

HIBISCS-WA in TOP 10 most active stocks? Ironically both this warrant and its parent, Hibiscus Petroleum, the first SPAC on Bursa Malaysia has outshone the rest of the 'penny stocks/warrants' for the first time ever! It jumped 7 sen in yesterday's closing, a far cry from its lukewarm reception in late July 2011. Why is this so?

Could it be Hibiscus Petroleum has found its first foray into investment in the oil and gas (O&G) sector? Time to speculate? Read my earlier postings on my blog at ArifinLatif Consulting...

** Technically, its tracing a Wave 3.... in a 1-2-3 Elliot Wave sequence... and looks set to scale new heights in unchartered territory.

** Technically speaking.... formation of the three white candles - even though not as strong as 'three white soldiers' - signals a strong uptrend (by Japanese candlesticks jargon); and the latest bar is labelled as a 'squat' while the closing is above the 'alligator' - these are important indicators, a continuation in the current momentum, in layman's terms so to speak (according to Bill Williams Profitunity analysis).

*** Personally, I saw a marked 'change-in-trend' (CIT) timing signal which occurred on 10/10/2011... 55 days after the listing ~ shades of a Fibonacci sequence unfolding itself.... i.e. a strong 'change-in-trend' begins... with the price escaping out of the zig zag channel ever since its listing. 

More importantly, this is happening at a time when the global stock markets are facing an uncertain future, at least in the short to medium term.... if not signalling the beginning of the fall of Wall Street! 

I have a gut feeling - in these turbulent times - small stocks/warrants are going to offer some relieve to Malaysian punters! 

So, Hibiscus... kembanglah dikau seperti Bunga Raya ~ bunga kebangsaan kita di kala kemuraman ini! InsyaAllah Malaysia Boleh! (dan...Bunga Raya/Hibiscus Boleh!).

The Hibiscus Petroleum IPO Story & Listing, Today!

As at noon, 25 July 2011...

This is the first SPAC (special purpose acquisition company) to be listed on Bursa Malaysia, a new phenomenon for us. To many its something out of this world. I believe its a unique opportunity for small timers to have a share in the exploration and production of small oil and gas fields available in this side of the world, in Malaysian shores included... and perhaps in the Spratly's Islands?. 

Think of Hibiscus Petroleum having say, a 15-20% stake, of the Kikeh oil field discovery...off the coast of Sabah ~ what a gold mine it might have been? And earlier on, in 1983-85, when I was studying in Down Under, I did invest a bit in Offshore Oil NL - then having a small stake in the Jabiru Oil discovery between Northern Territory and Timor. With just a bit of oil find news triggered the share to move up from a mere 7 cents to 17 cents! Not bad for a small timer studying at ANU then. The point I am trying to make is this, if only such an opportunity exist on Bursa Malaysia wouldn't small timers have a chance to earn something akin to the JRs of TV soap opera "Dallas", albeit just a bit? 

How can small timers ever have a chance to invest in Petronas, even if its listed on Bursa? I have voiced my opinion for such a possibility in some of my articles in The EDGE Malaysia. Yes, why can't the Government float a certain portion of Petronas shares - just like what the Brasilian Government did for Petrobras? And yes, see what happens to the Brasilian economy of today?

I would dearly love to see that happening in due course, but for the time being what irks me was the way the IPO for Hibiscus Petroleum is being processed! Internet checks on the balloting of shares can only be confirmed today online at Equiniti's website.... and the public listing is today! How can we, small timers, sell our shares if by today we are not sure whether our applications are successful or not? Definitely no results of such came through the mail (physical mail) at the time of blogging! Aren't we short changed by this 'glitch'? I would wish to sell the warrant component first given the chance... but how could I when there's no official news of the IPO's notice of allotment?

Bursa Malaysia regulators... in you we trust! Is it that today's trading is just for the institutional blocks? Why I suspect that is the fact that the retail portion of the IPO is no where to be seen, at least I haven't received mine even by noon today (an earlier check from Bursa Malaysia's website indicated that the Bumi portion was 100% fully subscribed)!. 

As it turns out, trading was a muted affair for the debut today ~ Hibiscus (down 10 sen) but Hibiscus-WA was up 1 sen! There goes the chance to trade the warrants first!

How to Track a New IPO: The Case for MSM

=> Too early/insufficient data to get accurate signals???

=> Stochastics trending downwards - from 69 to 68.8, now at 55.9
=> Price oscillator....? insufficient data to invoke a calculation! 

My ANALYSES:

1. Stochastics => on the high side, from 69 down to 68.8 and now
at 55.9 (trending downwards!).
2. Mini EWA (Elliot Wave Analysis) => waves 1, 2, 3 completed... expect wave 4 to unfold.
3. Price reversals timing => fits into 2,3 and 8-day fibonacci sequence!
4. Wilder's Swing index => signals a 'short sell' Friday, 8/7!
5. Bill William's Profitunity Analysis => fake bars (last 2 days - categorised as 'slightly dangerous'!)
6. Japanese candlesticks => Inverted hammer on 7/7 + Three black candles appearing on 11/7!!!
 

My PROGNOSIS:

Take profits first... re-enter when mini wave 4 unfolds.

Tracking an IPO - The Case for MSM

An interesting IPO and a startling debut for MSM (Malaysian Sugar Manufacturing)... bought over from Robert Kuok's stable of companies... kudos for FELDA Berhad. Good marks for the Govt's ETP with respect to the capital market masterplan!

If you are a long term investor, just lock up your MSM shares and move on looking for similar IPOs. Fundamentally, just follow the PER and/or the perceived multiples of its earnings ~ yes just trust the financial analyst's evaluation.

But if you wish to trade, or trade-and-invest, then technical analysis can offer some pointers.... after 9 days of up, up and away scenario chances are profit taking will appear. When? It is now... with stochastics 'cutting from above' over the 80% line! 

From a mini EWA, I saw a mini wave 1 (day 2), mini wave 2 (day 3, touching 2.618x level) and a potential mini wave 3 (day 8)... yes a 2-3-8 fibonacci sequence in play?

Too early (not enough data) to get accurate pointers! Nevertheless, here are some of my analyses:

1. Stochastics on the high side, down from >80 to now at 68.8 (trending downwards!).
2. My own mini Elliot Wave Analysis (EWA) shows a mini wave 1, 2 and 3 completed...so  next move, a possible mini wave 4 (correction wave).
3. Wilder's Swing index signals a 'short sell' there last Friday!

My prognosis>> take profits first and re-enter when mini wave 4 unfolds. Happy trading guys & gals!
